Geometrical Gravity
A downloadable game
Does it make a difference if movement is based on world response rather than player action? Instead of using WASD or Arrow Keys to move around and navigate the world, the player will be rotating the world, and the avatar would move by gravity. I wanted to really focus on environmental manipulation. By shifting the agency in the game and allowing the player to control the world instead of their avatar, I believe it makes the game feel more immersive and counters the traditional platforming movement. The game uses emergent challenges, where the complexity of gameplay comes from level design, rather than having a lot of input systems. The mechanics are very simple but are still enjoyable. I wanted to make a game where you can relax and play in class. I specifically used gravity to help the player feel control over the environment. I wanted to create a metaphor that made the player aware of their control and the consequences of their actions. I was also relying on the affordance of players knowing universal game symbols (yellow for collectable, red for avoid, green for go). Through iterative design, I enhanced the levels slightly so that they become more complicated, without making it too complicated. I wanted to replicate the feeling of 2048.
